“The Bubble”

In 1958 Evan Hallstrom, third generation family member, created the first air supported greenhouse in the country. His idea to use pressurized air through plastic created an optimal greenhouse environment. Greenhouse growers and interested people came to Hallstrom’s Greenhouses to see “the bubble” and how it worked. Visitors from Japan, Russia and all across the United States came to study it.

Evan was told by experts in the industry and scientists that it was not possible to do what he proposed but once they saw his invention and how well it worked, they believed. Today, most greenhouses use “the bubble” but it has evolved to be two layers of polyethylene plastic instead of one. To this day, Evan’s invention has revolutionized the greenhouse growing industry worldwide.
